Critical Role Season Four Introduces the Fighters Table

Ever since the premiere of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master the talented storyteller has maintained audience suspense with extensive world-building, a diverse cast of characters, and a thrilling plot showcasing celestial beings, fiends, and sinister influences increasing in influence within the urban setting.

Warning: Spoilers for the latest installment of this adventure lie ahead.

The Combat-Oriented Party Unveiled

Episode 3 finished on a dramatic pause and presented the initial group of adventurers who will split off from the main group to begin their independent quest, apart from the other two tables.

The combat-focused team consists of the determined fighter (brought to life by the voice actor), the agile character (the talented performer), the fierce warrior (the cast member), Wicander (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan (Robbie Daymond).

Dividing the Cast

Considering an extensive roster, it was obvious from the outset that keeping everyone at one table would be unworkable.

Hence, the initial installments of this story serve as an Introduction, intertwining the characters’ stories before splitting into three separate parties: Warriors, Schemers, and Explorers.

Characteristics of the Combat Party

Per Brennan Lee Mulligan, the Soldiers table is for adventurers who prefer a traditionally charged fight-heavy narrative style where diplomatic options are few and far between.

Upon first impression, figures such as the reluctant priest the cleric might seem unsuited, but the developments of episode 3 make it clear why these specific adventurers are perfectly fit for the combat party.

Why They Must Go

To begin with, the group has a clear idea where to proceed after a brutal initial meeting with The Crow Keepers.

A former ally of Thjazi Fang—whose passing initiated the narrative’s action—manipulated The Crow Keepers for his personal gain, breaking into the hidden lair, assaulting the rogue, and taking all the powerful objects to dispose of.

The traitor then cleared his liabilities and fled to a fortified location in Gormalay, Timmony, above the urban center, with Cyd Pridesire close behind.

Character Drivers

Additionally, each character has a personal reason to leave the city the urban setting:

  • Thimble, as Thjazi’s partner and best friend, desires retribution.
  • Kattigan has experience in Timmony and cautions that it is a nasty location.
  • The strong character and The cleric, having resisted his house’s orders to execute the fighter and instead freed him, have nowhere else to go.
  • However, their reputation as important members in the powerful family could assist the party enter areas they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Moreover, The grateful character swore a unbreakable promise to The savior for his salvation and will now accompany him wherever.

Fugitives

In addition, all of them are wanted by the powers that rule the city for a variety of reasons, making lingering locally dangerous:

  • Thimble and The character are known criminals.
  • Tyranny and Wicander defied the influential house and the horde of evil beings they are partnered with.
  • The target is targeted for elimination by the family.

This leaves them little choice but to journey toward the remote area in quest for the traitor.

Future Episodes

Based on the latest episode’s post-show segment, we find out that the combat party will be absent next week, leaving the remaining eight cast members to assemble the Seekers and Schemers groups.

Viewers can look forward to discovering which adventurers will be in which group in the season’s last Overture episode, streaming live on next week.
